“Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find me, unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.”

Hi Guys:

Come over on Wednesday in honor of Brynn and Kevin and the recent equinox and the adventure of traveling uptown. It’s safe and spacious, I promise, replete with ripe young minds and right by Riverside Park in case we want to take it outside in the amazing 50 degree weather we’re expecting. I’m thinking of organizing a taco situation, as in, I eat raw but I still remember how to foster a love for beans and rice, guac and salsa… This way maybe we can divide things, some peeps can bring tortillas and beer, cheese, sour cream, fixings, whatevs—-simplicity kept.

I’m a block off the 1 line at 115th and Broadway (604 W 115 APT 2C), across the street from the entrance to Columbia. (“Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect…. you know this.) Come around 8. Anyone who works or gets educated I’m Manhattan is welcome to stay over, there’s space.

xo,
H

“

When I finally arrive there—

and it will take many days and nights—

I would like to believe others will be waiting

and might even want to know how it was.

So I will reminisce about a particular sky

or a woman in a white bathrobe

or the time I visited a narrow strait

where a famous naval battle had taken place.

Then I will spread out on a table

a large map of my world

and explain to the people of the future

in their pale garments what it was like—

how mountains rose between the valleys

and this was called geography,

how boats loaded with cargo plied the rivers

and this was known as commerce,

how the people from this pink area

crossed over into this light-green area

and set fires and killed whoever they found

and this was called history—

and they will listen, mild-eyed and silent,

as more of them arrive to join the circle

like ripples moving toward,

not away from, a stone tossed into a pond.
